Also proposes tariff for bagasse-based power.
After having announced new tariff for procurement of power generated from wind and solar energy sources, Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has now proposed tariff structure for procurement of power by distribution licensee from bagasse and biomass-based power generators.
In its discussion paper on determination of biomass-based power generation tariff, the commission has proposed a tariff for purchase of biomass-based power at Rs 4.25 per unit for the initial ten years starting from the date of commercial operation of the project and Rs 4.50 per unit from the eleventh year to twentieth year.
As far as the purchase of bagasse-based power project is concerned, the state power regulator has proposed a tariff of Rs 4.50 per unit for the initial ten years starting from the date of Commercial operation of the project and Rs 4.90 unit from the eleventh year to twentieth year.
These tariff rates will be applicable for purchase of bagasse and biomass-based power by distribution licensees and others in Gujarat for complying with the renewable power purchase obligation. All the generators who will commission new bagasse and biomass-based power plants during the control period are eligible for these tariff.
The power regulator has invited stakeholders views, suggestions and objection with regard to procurement tariff and final decision would be taken only after considering the opinion of the stakeholders.

As part of its efforts to encourage power generation from renewable energy sources, the regulator has recently raised tariff for procurement of power generated from wind energy sources to Rs 3.56 per unit from Rs 3.37 unit. This tariff will remain constant for 25 years.
Before hiking wind power tariff, GERC had also finalised new tariff for solar thermal and solar photovoltaic power. It fixed a tariff of Rs 15 per unit for power to be purchased from solar photovoltaic generators and Rs 11 per unit for solar thermal power. These tariff rates are for initial 12 years and will be applicable to new solar power projects to be commissioned in the state during next two years.
After 12 years, the generators will have to sell power gen rated from solar photovoltaic and thermal solar projects at Rs 5 and Rs 4 per unit respectively.
