Gill, who arrived here earlier during the day to gauge the situation resulting from the opposition of the the All Assam Students Union (AASU) to the October eleven byelection, told reporters that a formal notification would be issued on his return to Delhi.
Meanwhile, the AASU, which had earlier met the election commissioner, said they would take a final decision regarding withdrawal of their opposition to the by-election only after scrutinising the notification.
Gill categorically said that the byelections was not not linked to the proposed intensive electoral rolls revision and asked the AASU not not to link the two.
Asked whether the EC's latest decision to order fresh electoral rolls revision would defuse the ongoing tension in the state, Gill said that rescinding the agitation of the AASU was not the central focus of the Election Commission.
