A week after assuming charge as minister of state for power, coal and renewable energy, Piyush Goyal today got together a group of some 350 officials of the three ministries to create greater synergy among them. Since no one conference hall of any of these departments could fit in all the officials, the event was hosted at the Convention Hall of NDMC in New Delhi.
The idea was to create harmony in the working of the ministries to reach the National goal of Energy Security. Officials from the three ministries, from the level of Section Officer till Secretary, participated in the conclave.
The high point was a motivational session by author Chetan Bhagat who spoke on game-changing ideas. But Goyal, himself too, had an interactive session with the officers inviting suggestions and ideas to improve the system.
Titled "sampark, "samanvay and samvad" the initiative came from Goyal himself who strongly felt that there was a need to bring officers closer so that they can enter in to regular dialogue, understand each other, and bring better congruence in working.
"This would help in exchange of innovative ideas and open a channel of communication and information flow between the three Ministries," said an official statement.
Addressing the officers, Goyal said it was time to move beyond politics to performance, and that it was necessary to break barriers within the system. He emphasised that the Ministries should send across a message of clarity, transparency and togetherness to the public. Three ministries together could add 1.5 to 2 per cent to the GDP growth rate.
Since Goyal's all the three portfolios have correlation to the environment ministry, he had invited Prakash Javadekar, minister of environment, forest, and climate change was chief guest at the function. Javadekar asked the officers to come out of officialdom and work as part of a movement for nation-building.
The minister stated complete trust, freedom to act, clear mandate, time-bound results and real time crosscheck were essential for effective governance.
He also asked the officers to work with a vision, in a mission mode and to follow the seven Cs of Commitment, Compassion, Confidence, Communication, Competence, Consistency, and Creativity. He added that the real key to prosperity is innovation.
