GMB inks Rs 1 lakh-cr MoUs for expansion, shipyard projects

The state-run Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) today signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) worth over Rs 1 lakh crore with various companies for enhancing its cargo handling capacity and building of shipyards, at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit (VGS) 2011 here.

A total of 97 MoU were signed by GMB with various companies for handling bulk cargo, LNG, coal, crude oil and petrochemicals, development of greenfield port and for ship building and repairing yard complexes, officials said.

GMB signed Rs 8,000 crore MoU with Adani HPPL for development of bulk and general cargo terminal at Hazira in Surat, while it has inked deal of Rs 7000 crore with GVK Power & Infrastructure for new port facilities, maritime city and private coal terminal and LNG terminal at Okhamandal in Jamnagar district.

For development of a greenfield port, it has signed an MoU worth Rs 5,000 crore with Shapoorji Paloonji Co. The port will come up at Chhara in Jungadh district with capacity to handle eight MMTPA of coal, according to officials.

GMB has also signed MoUs with several companies for shipyard and shipbuilding activities.

These companies include POL India Agencies, ABG Shipyards, MPSEZ, Shiva Shipbuilders, Good Earth Shipbuilding, Adani Petronet, and Dahej Offshore Infrastructure SEZ and MPSEZ among others.
