The Goa government is contemplating introduction of study of garbage segregation and management as a part of curriculum for school students.

"We are awaiting the decision from state education board whether awareness and teaching on garbage segregation and management can be a part of school project," state environment minister Alina Saldanha told reporters here today.

Teachers from 129 schools have been educated on the garbage management so that they can teach it to the pupils, she said.

The state government will encourage students to collect garbage and learn to segregate it. "Incentives can be given to students depending on the amount of garbage they collect," the minister said.

Saldanha was speaking on the sidelines of a function organised to sign a MoU between Goa State Pollution Control Board and Vasavdatta Cement for consuming the plastic garbage.

"It is important to educate youngsters about bad effects of garbage littering and ways to segregate the waste. Once a student is educated he will teach his parents about the good habit of not littering the roads with garbage," she said.
