Amateur radio operators (HAMs) worldwide have witnessed hectic activities with the switching on of the transponder on-board Hamsat, launched by PSLV-C6, according to Indian Space Research Organisation.

HAMs are sending feedback on the satellite's performance, the Bangalore-based space agency said in a statement.

E-mails have been received from HAMs in India, Canada, the USA, Malaysia, Australia, Brazil, the UK, Italy and Spain, confirming excellent quality of transmission by Hamsat, both in terms of power and clarity, ISRO said.

"A few HAMs have even sent actual audio recordings of conversation carried out via Hamsat," it said.

Hamsat was launched along with remote sensing satellite Cartosat-1 on board PSLV-C6 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) Shar, Sriharikota on May 5.

The 42.5 kg Hamsat was built by ISRO as a contribution to the international HAMs, the statement said.

Meanwhile, imageries from the two panchromatic cameras on board Cartosat-1 were received at the national remote sensing agency's data reception station at Shadnagar, near Hyderabad, it said.

"Detailed analysis confirms the excellent performance of the cameras," ISRO said.

"Imageries have been received from the satellite over Punjab and Gujarat. The imageries also include one over Amritsar."
