Gopio conference on Jan 5-6

The Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (Gopio) in conjunction with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) will hold 'Gopio Conference 2006' here on January 5 and 6. Gopio will hold sessions on 'Global Indian Diaspora: Today and Tomorrow' and 'Indian Diaspora: Opportunities in Business, Technology and Investments' and adopt resolutions at the end of the two-day conference.
 
Formed in 1989 at the first convention of PIOs in New York, Gopio sends its newsletters to about 35,000 people of Indian origin spread in 70 countries.
 
Announcing this at a press meet here on Tuesday, G A N Bhukta, chairman and convenor, Gopio-PBD 2006 said, "We want to start Gopio chapters in various places in Andhra Pradesh."
 
The presence would help in networking capital and human resources from across the world, Bhukta said.
 
An exchange programme for a youth delegation from Gopio was arranged in association with youth, industries and tourism ministries to visit historic and business places in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, said Subba Rao Atluri, coordinator, Gopio-PBD 2006, and vice-president, The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Fapcci).
 
The Pravasi Bhartiya Divas will be held at Hitex from January 7-9, 2006.
