Government hopeful of Infy centre in West Bengal

West Bengal government hopes that Infosys Technologies will follow in the footsteps of other it majors in setting up its development centre in the state.
 
IT minister Manabendra Mukherjee told reporters here on Tuesday that the state government was in regular touch with Infosys which would take a decision on opening new centres by the end of this year.
 
"We are hopeful of bringing the Infosys Technologies to the state."
 
West Bengal has received investments of around Rs 2,500 crore in IT and ITES sectors in the past three years, he said, adding it had been able to attract major players like Wipro, Satyam, ITC Infotech, Spectramind, Tata Consultancy Services and Congnizent Technology Solutions.
 
Another two big IT companies, he said, had also shown keen interest in coming to the state.
 
Out of the total investment in the sector, Rs 2,000 crore was invested in telecom and Rs 500 crore in IT and ITES, he said.
 
He said that Fitec, an IT company that had reportedly gone out of the state during a Citu-sponsored bandh, has come back and was going to begin their operation next month.
