“The 488-category college teachers will be eligible to get full basic salary and grade pay. They will be able to get grant-in-aid after three years,” said Badri Narayan Patra, minister of higher education in the state assembly.
Similarly, teachers and staffs of 662-category colleges will receive 60 per cent of basic pay and 60 per cent grade pay, against full salary prescribed by the Commission. The salaries will rise to 75 per cent and 100 per cent after 8 and 11 years of service, respectively,” Patra said.

The announcements came after a violent strike at the lower PMG area of city today, as agitating teachers clashed with security forces while crossing the police barricade on their march to the state assembly. These teachers have been protesting for past 80 days demanding full aid to these colleges.
The teachers were not satisfied with the announcements made by the minister.
“We will continue to disrupt education activities in colleges and will continue the stir until and unless the government agrees to our demand,” said Biranchi Das, a leader of 488-category college teachers’ association. According to the Grants in Aids (GIA) order, all non-government colleges of the state have been classified under three categories -- those receiving the GIA before the order came in 1994, those considered eligible for the aid till 1994, and those eligible after the 1994 Act. The third category includes first and second junior colleges in the block, the first degree college in the block and the first women’s college in the revenue sub-division.
