The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Policy 2010, according to information and public relations minister J Geeta Reddy.
The new policy would position the state competitively for attracting private sector investments in tourism and hospitality, promote inbound tourism for all potential destinations in the state and enhance employment generation. It would also aim at promoting new tourism products to maximise the advantage of Hyderabad city.
Governor to select VC
The Cabinet has decided to stay away from the process of selecting vice-chancellors for universities. The search committee appointed to find a new VC would now make its recommendations of three candidates to the Governor, who is also the chancellor of all universities in the state. He will finalise the candidate from the list.
Earlier, the government used to select one candidate from the list submitted by the search committee and then send it for ratification of Governor.
Ordinance on piracy
The state government will shortly pass an ordinance for dealing with piracy of films. The minister said the Bill would be moved in next Assembly session.
Land to Deccan Cements
The government agreed to give about 4 acres to Deccan Cements in Nalgonda district at Rs 2.5 lakh an acre. This would be used for a railway line.
PM to lay stone for TIFR
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to lay the foundation stone for the second campus of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research at Gachibowli in the city on October 19. He would also participate in the III World Academy of Sciences event at LV Prasad Eye Institute on the same day, the minister said.
