The government has asked BSNL board to act on an enquiry report, which looked in to wimax deals of the state-run telecom operator and submit its reply to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) by April 30.

"Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal has written to the BSNL board, asking them to take action on the committee report, which looked into allocation of WiMax deals of BSNL and submit its report by April 30," a Department of telecom official said.

In January 2008, BSNL selected Soma Networks for wimax service in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Andhra Pradesh. In early 2010, four firms -- Teracom, Take Solutions, Adishwar India and Ampoules were selected by BSNL through a bidding process for offering WiMax services in 16 circles.

The DoT committee, headed by Telecom Commission Member (Finance) Vijayalakshmy Gupta, in its report said the terms offered by the franchisees were "not in the financial interest of BSNL" and that the deals "need to be reviewed".

Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), which is also looking in to the matter, has to submit its report by April 30, the official said.

"CVC has also been asked to submit its findings by April 30," the official said.
