Govt collects Rs 44,463 cr taxes in Q1

 Rs 4,902 crore in the same month a year ago.

 During the month, Indian corporates paid a tax of Rs 14,891 crore on their earnings as compared to Rs 12,217 crore in the same month of 2005, up 21.88%.

However, excise duty collection posted a growth of 11.63% to Rs 8,749 crore in June over Rs 7,837 crore collection during June 2005.

On income tax front, the collection for June increased 20.75%  to Rs 4,107 crore while in the same month a year ago the government collected Rs 3,401 crore.
