Govt developing projects worth Rs 2.24 lakh cr: FM

The government today said as many as 450 infrastructure projects are being set up through public-private-partnership in the country at an estimated cost of Rs 2.24 lakh crore, reflecting improved environment for upgrading the core sector.

"There are currently about 450 PPP projects being implemented in various parts of the country with an estimated project cost of $47.7 billion," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said at a meeting on the Colombo Plan -- a grouping of nations for economic and social improvement in south and southeast Asia.

According to the booklet issued for the purpose, the highest number of 95 projects are being built in Karnataka with estimated project cost of Rs 39,491 crore.

However, in terms of cost, Andhra Pradesh tops the list with 65 projects worth Rs 40,314 crore being set up in the state.

The highest number of projects are being set up in the road sector at 271 with estimated total costs of Rs 1.02 lakh crore. As many as 43 projects are being set up in the port sector with costs of over Rs 66,000 crore.

The urban development sector is witnessing creation of 72 projects with total cost of over Rs 15,000 crore.
