Govt happy with efforts to check suicides

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said the central government was happy with the state government's efforts to check farmers' suicides in the six cotton growing districts of Vidarbha, but unfortunately the media was not doing justice to the efforts made by the state government.

Pawar was speaking to mediapersons after nearly two-and-a-half-hour meeting which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held with senior state government ministers and officers to find out the progress made by them in achieving the 4 per cent growth target set by the Planning Commission for the farm sector under the Eleventh Five Year Plan.
