Maharashtra finance minister Jayant Patil on Wednesday told the state legislative Assembly that, with Rs 70,000 crore in total debts and an interest burden of Rs 8000 crore, the government was keen to ensure the passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) to place limits on government expenditure.
Patil was responding to the two discussion on the state Budget during which leader of the opposition Narayan Rane, BJP leader Gopinath Munde and senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse raised several queries on the Plan size and the core plan tabled for fiscal 2002-03 by Patil on March 22.
