The government is actively considering comprehensive amendments in the Factories' Act 1948 for the safety of workers, Labour and Employment Secretary Sudha Pillai said today.
She said her Ministry is also making serious efforts to ratify some of the important ILO conventions related to occupational safety and health.
"As the technologies are changing fast today in the global scenario bringing with them newer hazards and risks to human life, the Labour Ministry has been amending the Factories' Act and further comprehensive amendments to the Act are already under the active consideration of the government," she said at a function here.
The first national films and books exhibition on occupational safety and health (OSH) was inaugurated by her on the occasion.
Addressing the meet, she called upon all the OSH stakeholders to draw their own policies in line with national policy to ensure safe and healthy working conditions at workplace.
To attain this objective, the Ministry has developed a national network called 'INDOSHNET'. Supported by Director General of Factory Advice Service and Labour Institutes, the network would share OSH information among various agencies for mutual benefits.
