The government today approved more than Rs 10,000 crore for implementing highway projects in Jammu & Kashmir and Karnataka.
"The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) today approved the implementation of six projects for four laning in the State of Jammu & Kashmir under National Highways Development Project Phase II on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) Basis," an official statement said.
"The total project cost (for J&K) is estimated at Rs 9,377.46 crore under the DBFOT (design, build, finance, operate and transfer) pattern. The concession period is for 20 years, including a construction period of 3 to 5 years," it added.
The projects include six-laning of Srinagar to Banihal, Qazigund to Banihal, Ramban to Banihal, Udhampur to Ramban, Chenani to Nashri and Jammu to Udhampur sections.
The main objective of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the state.
The project will provide all-weather-connectivity from Jammu to Kashmir valley, the statement said, adding that it will also help to reduce the journey time from Jammu to Srinagar and other strategic border areas in the state.
The CCI also approved Rs 839 crore project in Karnataka for six laning of 114 Km long Tumkur-Chitradurga section of NH-4 under National Highways Development Project Phase V DBFOT basis.
