Govt plan to help revive Peenya industrial estate

In an attempt to revive the Peenya Industrial Estate, the authorities concerned have finally conceived a Rs 26.3 crore project, the Peenya Infrastructure Corridor Upgradation Project. The industrial estate was the largest industrial estate in Asia sometime ago.
 
The project is expected to address 11 aspects such as the road network, streetlights, solid waste management, common testing laboratory, working women's hostel, childcare centre, common tool room, entrepreneurial training institute, and information and marketing assistance.
 
Inaugurating the project, Mohammed Sanaulla, commissioner for industrial development, said, "The contribution of the industries in Peenya has been enormous to Karnataka. The time has come for it not to be left on its own. We will assist the project in an aggressive way. The small scale industries are the key to developing any economy and we certainly realise that."
 
The Centre will come in with the majority Rs 19.7 crore, while the state government will contribute Rs 2.65 crore, and the remaining Rs 3.95 crore will come from beneficiaries in Peenya. The Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association will the nodal agency for this project.
 
Announcing further details on the project, R Prithviraj of Peenya Industries Association said RITES was conducting the survey and involved in the design for the project.
 
"The tenders will be called in four weeks. The centre has already released Rs 8 crore, the state government Rs 97 lakh and the beneficiaries Rs 1 crore," he added.
