The Ministry of Civil Aviation has proposed the name of Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Nasim Zaidi for the post of civil aviation secretary. It has also forwarded the name of E K Bharat Bhushan, financial advisor in the civil aviation ministry, for the DGCA’s post, which will get vacated if the government clears the appointment of Zaidi.
The incumbent civil aviation secretary, N M Nambiar, retires on November 30.
Zaidi, 58, is a 1976-batch UP-cadre IAS officer, while 55-year-old Bhushan is a 1979-batch Kerala-cadre IAS officer.
Zaidi joined the Directorate General of Civil Aviation as the director general in November 2008. Prior to this, he served as the permanent representative of India on the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization since November 2005. Zaidi’s association with aviation goes back many decades, when he set up a department of civil aviation with a small fleet of aircraft and helicopters to cater to the needs of the Uttar Pradesh government. He later also served as the commissioner for surface transport.
