The directorate has notified that it is suspending dumping probes into hexamine imports from Iran since its sole manufacturer, Sina Chemicals, has given a price undertaking.

In the past, price undertakings had been given in the case of newsprint imported from Russia, lead acid battery from China, polyester film from Korea, white cement from the UAE and black and white photographic paper imported from Germany, officials said.

Though some World Trade Organisation members like the US have used the price undertakings route, in India the method has been used in less than six cases.

India is the highest user of the anti-dumping mechanism, with the DGAD having initiated 162 investigations between 1992 and September 22.

However, if the definitive price undertakings were accounted for, the US would have topped the list, having initiated 264 cases till the end of June 2002.

Of these, 68 were price undertakings. The EU was in the second spot with 219 cases followed by India in the third position.
