Lockheed Martin, leading US based advanced technology company and defence equipment manufacturer, is looking at entering the Indian market with a $1 billion deal of transport cargo planes.The union defence ministry is in talks with the US Department of Defense on the issue, and the contract is likely to be signed by the end of this fiscal, said Royce Caplinger, managing director, Lockheed Martin India. The deal, if signed, will be the first and the largest defence deal between India and the US, he said.The government plans to buy six C-130 J Hercules planes, a four-engine turboprop cargo aircraft, to help in special defence operations, said Caplinger. Lockheed Martin is the sole bidder for the contract.
