Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who returned from a four-day visit to China on Saturday, said that the state Agricultural University will be asked to study the Chinese model of development where the agriculture productivity levels are higher between 50 and 200 times, when compared to India.

Attributing mechanisation of agriculture as one of the important factors for the higher productivity levels being achieved in China, the chief minister said that both Andhra Pradesh and China may co-operate in the areas of waste disposal management, food processing and pharma industry.

Refusing to agree with the opinion that the Chinese political system has a big role in the achievements of that country, Rajasekhara Reddy said that same could be achieved in a democratic system like India.

According to him, reforms undertaken by the Chinese government had tremendously contributed to the advancement of that economy. He said that Chinese are practicing socialist market economy model.

Diversification of rural livelihood in the chinese countryside is another area which can be emulated in the state, the chief minister said. "But the urban rural divide is further widening in China, which is a matter of concern," he observed.

The delegation, led by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, visited Beijing, Wuhan and Hongshan district, the 'Three Gorges' project and Shanghai City among others.
