Minister of state for finance G N Ramachandran said today the government will consider tax sops for boosting health insurance sector, which has so far lagged behind life insurance. "My ministry will consider suggestions for tax incentives to encourage large-scale patronage to health insurance schemes keeping in view the long-term benefits to economy," Ramachandran said at a seminar organised by the Federation of Doctors, Hospitals and Healthcare Industry here.
He added that with the growth of the sector the exchequer would also benefit through the levy of service tax. Ramachandran said Centre would also consider feasibility of charting out health insurance schemes for government employees and organised sector.
