The government today said it plans to construct mega highways of 1,000 km stretch or more.
However, the length of the initially identified stretches vary between 390 km and 700 km, Minister of State for Road and Transport R P N Singh informed the Rajya Sabha today.
"The process of finalisation of modalities/norms has been undertaken in consultation with all concerned for implementation of mega projects with funding under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) before the bids could be invited," Singh said.
"The government is considering nine projects for taking up as Mega projects. Length of the project varies from 390 to 700 kms and traverses through one or two states," he told the Upper House replying to another query.
Of these nine projects, three traverses through Gujarat, two each through Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and one each through Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, he added.
