The Union government has decided to provide scholarship to 5 million students from the minority communities in the next financial year, Minister of State for Minorities Welfare, Salman Khursheed said.
During the last financial year, only 600,000 minority students had received scholarships, while this year the number has been increased to 2.9 million, Khursheed added while talking to a delegation of former students of Aligarh Muslim university here last night.
The minister, who is currently on a visit to his parliamentary constituency, also said that an arrangement has been worked out with private industrial houses to provide special training to madrassa students.
"Special emphasis has been given for welfare of minorities and their recruitment under the Prime Minister's 15-point programme," he added.
