The government looks to private sector to provide the major push towards employment in urban areas and will help accordingly, union minister for heavy industries and public enterprise Anant Geete said on Friday.

Speaking at the Smart Manufacturing summit organised by industry body Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Geete said domestic industry remained the government's first priority inspite of its persistent courting of foreign direct investments.

He asked the manufacturing industry to invest in growth and operation, repeatedly assuring government assistance.

Geete said comprehensive action has been taken to turn around all central public sector undertakings (CPSU), pointing out that only 12 out 32 CPSUs were running successfully when had taken over as minister.
