Govt to issue soil health cards to farmers

 This initiative is the first of it kind in the country taken by the government of Gujarat in a recent review of the state agricultural department convened by the chief minister Narendra Modi.

 Fertiliser companies, including GSFC, GNFC, Iffco, Kribhco and Indian Potash Ltd, in collaboration with the state agricultural department are entrusted with the soil survey work, which has to be carried out in more than 18,000 villages of the state.

 During the survey, a sample of the soil will be tested in laboratory. The test will analyse the compounds present in the soil and their proportionate quantity.

 After the survey, every farmers will be issued the soil health cards by the agricultural department of the state government.

 The survey, along with the soil health cards, will help the government chart out a village-level production plan and increase the agricultural production of the state.
