Under the safe food town component of the scheme, about 1,000 street food vendors would be targeted in nine cities for capacity building through training, part financing of the food vending cart and payment of insurance premium for the first year towards health along with life insurance cover and general insurance cover for the food cart.
The cities selected are - Agra, Delhi, Guwahati, Panaji, Ranchi, Nagpur, Ludhiana, Jaipur and Kochi.
The food street component of the scheme aims at upgrading the infrastructure facilities in an existing food street in the city. It would include upgradation of facade of existing food stalls, electrification and installation of modern electrical equipment, upgradation of water supply and drainage system, waste management system, etc.
Tirupati and Varanasi have been selected for the implementation of this component.
