The Narendra Modi government is planning to highlight its achievements in the first 100 days in office through a video clip of seven to eight minutes.
The clip is part of a media campaign that is to be unveiled on Saturday. "Earlier, it was decided that all ministries and departments will prepare short video clips on their achievements in the first 100 days; but later, it was made optional due to shortage of time," said a senior government official.
The video film is being prepared with the assistance of directorate of advertising & visual publicity, which comes under the information and broadcasting ministry.
Officials said a pen drive containing the audio-visual presentation on the government's achievements would also be given to the bureaucrats in Central ministries.
"Key ministries were asked to make presentations on their achievements in the first 100 days. These were sent to the Prime Minister's Office . It has taken highlights from those presentations to make a short video on the government's achievements," said another official.
The finance ministry, which will kick off the campaign on Saturday, is likely to highlight in a big way the 'Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana' as one of its major achievements. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Modi on Thursday. So far, about 18 million bank accounts have been opened under the scheme.
Officials said the ministry might also talk about an ambitious disinvestment programme, setting up of a Special Investigating Team on black money, appointment of an Expenditure Management & Reforms Commission, formation of high-level committee of the Central Board of Direct Taxes to look at cases of retrospective taxation, and extension of excise duty benefits to revive demand in automobiles and consumer durables sectors as its achievements.
On two major reform areas, goods and services tax (GST) and raising the foreign investment limit to 49 per cent in the insurance sector, officials said finance minister Arun Jaitley might talk about addressing the concerns of the states through a Constitution Amendment Bill for GST in the winter session of Parliament. Jaitley might also talk about the possibility of the Insurance Bill going for the consideration of the Rajya Sabha in the same session, sources said.
The government is likely to point out that key economic indicators had started showing signs of recovery with first quarter GDP growing at 5.7 per cent and retail inflation coming below eight per cent. Jaitley, who is also the defence minister, might also highlight clearance to defence projects.
In other departments, officials said programmes such as Digital India, sanitation, and river-linking might form part of the government's 100-day achievement campaign. In food and agriculture, officials said controlling inflation, setting up of a high-powered committee to reform the Food Corporation of India and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sinchai Yojana might form part of the campaign.
