The Fab City board, which met here today, has decided to issue notices to half a dozen companies that had failed to start the execution of the proposed photovoltaic manufacturing units in the 1,200 acre park promoted by the state-owned Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation(APIIC).
The board will be issue notices to these companies, before proceeding to take back the land given to them, according to sources.
The Fab City project was touted as the chip manufacturing hub of the country but it remained a non-starter, though the government later gave about 700 acres to 33 companies that had proposed to set up solar cell units.
However, the government had to cancel the allotment of land to 19 companies, including Moser Baer (100 acres) and MIC Electronics(15 acres) involving a total extent of 430 acres in the past as they failed to execute the projects as promised. After reviewing the progress of execution of projects, the board has identified another 6-7 companies for cancellation of land allotments as they have not made any progress on the ground, according to an official.
