GPS to track errant transport officials

The officials and employees of the flying squad in the transport department will have to think twice while providing their location details to their superiors from now on. For the department is planning to install Global Positioning System (GPS) in their vehicles to get the exact position on roads.

The department has decided to install the GPS equipment in the flying squad vehicles to facilitate effective working and ensure better coordination between the senior officials and the squad members, state's transport minister Rajesh Munat said.

Sources in the department said that the senior officials had been complaining that the squad members were often misguiding them about the exact location.

The GPS equipment will allow the superiors to know the exact location for the squad. This would help them to assign the job according to their convenience that would streamline working in the department that had set the target to collect revenue of about Rs 400 crore in the current fiscal.

The department had collected revenue of Rs 351.85 crore in 2009-10 as against Rs 313.80 crore collected in the 2008-09 fiscal. The department expects an increase of 10 to 15 per cent in revenue in the current fiscal.
