The first ever joint Green India Summit commenced in Washington DC today. The summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in partnership with the US India Business Council (USIBC), is aimed at discussing the opportunities and prospects in areas of water, green buildings, clean coal technologies, renewable energy, nuclear energy and climate change issues.
Speaking at the event via video link, Shyam Saran, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister of India, pointed out the advantages and opportunities arising out of the recent civil nuclear agreement, India’s global standing on the climate change issues and the potential solutions to India’s power needs in the coming years.
Ronen Sen, Ambassador of India to US, also addressed the gathering about the need for a focused approach to India’s energy needs and seek partnerships with US companies for modern technologies to achieve world class solutions.
Meanwhile Sushil Kumar Shinde, Minister for Power, welcomed the participation of US companies in the power sector in India. HE said, “India, while upgrading its power plants and enhancing capacity by way of foreign investment and collaboration, is very conscious of the environmental issues associated with it and simultaneously is addressing the issue”
