Grundfos Pumps India has inaugurated its phase II plant in Chennai where the company had invested around Rs 17.6 crore. The company said it bought 16 acres near Sriperambudur for an additional production facility. Carlo Parola, senior V-P, Grundfos Group of Denmark, said work is expected to commence in 2011 at Sriperambudur. He declined to comment on proposed investment in the facility.
The company could also consider putting up additional facilities in other parts of the country in future, he said.
He added, India is an important and growing market for the company, while group’s revenues were down by nearly 10 per cent, Indian subsidiary grew around 3 per cent over the previous year.
During the calendar year 2009, Grundfos India reported revenues of Rs 208 crore compared with Rs 201 crore during the previous year. The group, as a whole reported revenues of Euro 2.3 billion.
The new facility inaugurated today comprises material handling equipment needed to handle pumps and components in the manufacture, assembly and storage operations.
We have test bed capacity that is built to 300 kw and the entire load is supported by generations which will help in testing large pumps used for infrastructure projects, said N K Ranganath, managing director, Grundfos-India.
Grundfos Pumps India assembles and sells large capacity pumps in India. The Indian market for pumps is estimated to be around Rs 4000 crore, and of this the addressable market is around Rs 2,700 crore, he added.
