In order to substantially reduce carbon footprints in the state, the Gujarat government has suggested that 20 per cent of diesel composition by Jatropha originated bio-fuel.

Speaking at an awareness workshop on 'Eco Industrial Parks - Planning & Management', SK Nanda, principal secretary, environment and forests, Government of Gujarat emphasised that while there is a great significance of ecology in industry, it is equally important to have industry out of ecology. "In order to maintain purity of nature and environment, conservation and management tools such as eco industrial park concept is of tremendous relevance and requirement for the state of Gujarat," he said.

Quoting the example of the forthcoming bio-fuel policy of Gujarat, he suggested that by replacing 20 per cent of diesel composition by Jatropha originated bio-fuel Gujarat can substantially reduce its carbon footprints. At the same time, the waste from bio diesel plants can be reused for further applications such as bio degradable plastics and crop enhancing adjuvant especially for sugar cane.

Nanda also stressed upon reuse and recycle of industrial waste and urged the participants to come out with innovative ideas so that the Government can device future trends in this direction.

"The prominent chemical and petro chemical sector, large number of SEZs and 20 large estates under planning with more than 50,000 hectare of land would undoubtedly require eco friendly management of the state," he added.
