Taking a serious note of the situation arising out of erratic monsoon and rainfall deficiency in many district of the state the Gujarat government on Wednesday formed a high-level committee of seven senior ministers to assess the water, agriculture, irrigation and other basic issues.
The decision to form a committee headed by Finance minister Vaju Vala was taken after the cabinet reviewed situation in the state with regard to drinking water, irrigation and agriculture.
Government spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas that the committee will assess the situation in the state with regard to drinking water, irrigation water, electricity supply, seed stock and other issue and take appropriate decisions.
The committee would comprise of rural development minister Narottam Patel, revenue minister Anandi Patel, water resources minister Nitin Patel, agriculture minister Dilip Sanghani, forest minister Mangu Patel and industries minister Saurabh Patel.
Chief minister Narendra Modi, heading the cabinet, also asked the water resources department to develop a water management contingency plan for the state.
He also formed a committee of 10 senior bureaucrats to overlook the implementation of the water contingency plan.
