While fuel prices have risen by 20 per cent rise, prices of dyes and chemicals have increased by more than 25 per cent in the past few months. The processors have decided to increase wage costs by five per cent, said industry sources.
"The cost of production for dyeing, printing and processing is become dearer. There are around 390 units in and around Surat. Gas supply is expected to cut down by 20 per cent in July. Given the circumstances, the cost for processing houses is likely to rise further," said Vipul Desai, secretary, South Gujarat Textile Processors' Association. "For the time being, we have increased our prices by mere five per cent, but if the fuel prices go up further, we have to consider for another price hike in July-August," he added.
Ahmedabad-based processors are also likely to hike charges, Nareshkumar Sharma, vice-president, Ahmedabad Textile Processor's Association said.
