Gujarat expects to sign MoU of Rs 25k cr for tourism sector

Gujarat is hopeful of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 20,000-25,000 crore for development of tourism sector during the forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit 2009, Gujarat's Minister of Health & Tourism Jay Narayan Vyas said here.

The Industrial Extension Bureau (a government of Gujarat initiative) in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising the 4th Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit 2009 on January 12-13 in Ahmedabad.

"Gujarat has immense potential to become a major tourist destination. We are also looking at marketing of tourism infrastructure projects in Gujarat," Vyas told reporters here.

The focus of this year summit will be based on Globalisation of Gujarat Tourism.

Tourism Corporation of Gujarat (TCGL) has selected 37 destinations for integrated tourism development. In the last two years, more than 600 projects, in 300 tourist destinations, have been taken up at a cost of more than Rs 100 crore.

"We have signed a total of 33 MoUs, involving an investment of Rs 10,793 crore, were signed at 2007 summit," Vyas said.

The state has formed a joint venture company with IL&FS IDC for undertaking development of tourism and civil aviation projects under Public Private Partnership (PPP) at Mandavi-Kutch, Sasangir & Somnath-Junagadh, Chmpaner-Panchmahal and Dwarka-Jamnagar.
