Gujarat govt to build 120K homes for poor

Gujarat government on Friday announced in the state Assembly that it will build more then 120,000 by the end of this year for the poor and home-less people of the state.

"By this year end our government will build 1,20,698 homes under Sardar Patel Housing Scheme for the poor and homeless people," said Panchayat, Rural Housing and Rural development minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama today while addressing the house during the discussion of budgetary demands for the year 2013-14 for his department.

He further stated that state government has initiated a state-wide survey of the slums and mud-houses which he assured would complete by the end of this month and then government would start coverting those slums and mud-houses into built-houses.

For the year 2013-14 state government has allocated Rs 1,650 crore for the rural housing, of which Rs 1,062 crore has been earmarked for providing regular houses to BPL families in the state.

In the year 2001-02 Rs 10,490 lakh were allocated to build 26,225 houses whereas in the year 2012-13 government has earmarked Rs 2,04,066 lakh to build 4,53,482 houses, Chudasama informed the Assembly.
