Following a writ petition filed by Dipak Kumar Shah, a chartered accountant from Ahmedabad, a Bench of the Gujarat High Court comprising Justice R K Abhichandani and Justice Kundansinh, has issued a notice to the principal general manager of Ahmedabad telecom district of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Tuesday.
It was alleged that BSNL had not published its telephone subscribers' directory for Ahmedabad for the past five years and its online enquiry service through 197 was inefficient.
The petitioner said BSNL had last printed a telephone directory in July 1997. "It is difficult getting a response by dialling 197 and most of the time, one gets wrong replies," Shah alleged in the petition.
Shah also requested the Bench that the respondent be ordered to publish a directory immediately. The Bench has asked the principal general manager to respond to the petition. The notice is returnable on October 28.
