Gujarat Lok Adalats dispose of 29 lakh cases

The Chief Justice of the Gujarat high court, Bhavani Singhji, said here that, as many as 29 lakh litigations have been disposed of through the Lok Adalats in Gujarat.
And more then 34 lakh litigations await justice in various courts of the state, he added. Inaugurating Jamnagar district's 238th special Lok Adalat jointly organised by the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation and the District Legal Service Authority on Sunday, he said Lok Adalats have become people's movement by dispensing speedy justice sans grievances among the parties involved, as justice is dispensed on a compromise basis.
Even in terror-prone Jammu & Kashmir, Lok Adalats have been successful, he said. On Sunday, settlement in 235 cases were arrived at between the municipal corporation and litigants.
Justice J N Bhatt, the executive chairman of the Gujarat state Legal Service Authority, said that Lok Adalats have assured timely justice, which very essential.
District Judge B N Karia said as many as 3,400 appeals of house tax recovery pending at various courts will be disposed of during a special campaign being taken by the conciliators and the municipal officials.
Till date, as many as 8,000 such litigations have been disposed of through Lok Adalats, she said. Judges of the Gujarat high court, D K Trivedi and Pradip Bhatt, and POTA Judge Sonia Gokani were among the dignitaries present.
