Post demonetisation since November 8, Gujarat has emerged as the state with the highest number of e-transaction being registered at close to over 32 million between November 9 and December 2.
According to Electronic Transaction Aggregation & Analysis Layer (e-Taal) after Union government scrapped Rs 500 and 1,000 currency notes, in all 150 million e-transactions have been registered so far on which Gujarat has have highest share of 20.10% share, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh at 12% each.
The e-transactions were made for commercial tax payments, utility services and bill payments, personnel and administrative expenses and for industrial and commercial purposes.
Government of Gujarat has been actively promoting e-transaction across the state and has taken several steps to enable technology for the same. Volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) have been involved for creating awareness about digital banking in 1,300 villages.
"District magistrates are promoting use of digital modes of transactions by encouraging banks, trade organizations, industrial associations and educational institutions to adopt cashless transactions," said a state government official.
Recently, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also called an emergency meeting of the senior officials from the banking sector and made a joint decision with the banks to start a campaign for SMS payment services.
The chief minister also discussed measures to create awareness about cashless transactions and digital banking among marginalised sections of society.

The state government also launched a campaign for further expanding the enrolment for Aadhar and Rupay Card and to open new bank accounts in order to boost digital financial inclusion.
"A campaign has also been started to activate Aadhar seeding, mobile seeding and Rupay Card. As a result, 54,642 bank accounts have been opened through 738 camps," said Rupani on the campaign.
The government has announced that POS machines will be placed at all the 3,000 fuel stations across the state. These machines can also be used for cash withdrawal. Such POS machines will also be placed at almost 17,000 milk co-operative retail centers with the assistance of co-operative banks. The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation has tied up with Yes Bank to set up POS machines at 125 of its bus depots.
