In a bid to boost export of diamonds from Gujarat and to encourage the export-oriented diamond industry, the state government today decided to abolish the existing one per cent sales tax on the export of diamonds and to simplify the procedure for registration of units.
An announcement to this effect was made today by chief minister Narendra Modi in the state assembly.
The state government had introduced this one per cent sales tax in the last financial year. Welcoming this announcement, Gujarat agriculture minister Purushottam Rupala said the abolition of sales tax on the export of diamonds would encourage healthy development of the entire diamond industry in the present atmosphere of recession.
It would also lead to increased employment opportunities for diamond artisans and also increase government
