As automobile companies increasingly start entering into Gujarat for setting up their manufacturing facilities, the state government has initiated steps for skill development to meet the manpower requirement of these auto companies. The state government is looking to establish 150 skill development centers during 2010-11 to meet the rising demand from the industry.
At an inauguration of the a center of excellence at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Bhiloda, a town in the north Gujarat, the state minister of labour and employment, Vajubhai Vala informed that industrial training institutes played vital role in creating skilled workforce. "The center of excellence will provide specialised training for students targeted to the industry application.
The center of excellence at Bhiloda would provide skill-based training in the automobile sector. The newly built complex of the center was inaugurated by the minister on Wednesday at Bhiloda .
"As Gujarat is on its way to becoming an automobile hub, it is essential to provide the skill set required to cater to the growing demand stemming from this industry. There will be specialised training programmes for girls as part of this initiatives launched by the state government ," the minister informed at the inauguration function.
According to him, in Gujarat, nearly 116,000 students get training at the ITIs, of which nearly 55,000 are girl students.
