The Electricity Act 2003 will be implemented in Gujarat on December 10, 2003.
This was stated by the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) chairman, G Subba Rao, at an interactive session on the Electricity Act 2003, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Rao said that while the Act has already been enacted by parliament, it will come into force in Gujarat from December.

He added that GERC is preparing different schemes in consultation with different industries linked with electricity and captive power generation.
The Act supersedes the existing legislations in the power sector and has a host of new features.
Nitin Shukla, the former president of CII Gujarat, said that while the state has taken many progressive steps in the direction of power reform, several steps still need to be taken to ensure speedy implementation of the new Act.
