Crystal Water Pvt Ltd to sign MoU in VGGIS for Rs 500 cr chemical plant at Dahej

Gujarat will now service the swimming pools in US's entertainment capital, Los Angeles (LA). With Crystal Water Products private limited all set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a 3000 tonnes per annum water treatment chemical plant at Dahej special economic zone (SEZ), the state will supply a unique chemical that will clean up the pools of LA.

Hemant Kurani, Los Angeles based promoter of Crystal Water Products said, "We are going to set up a 3,000 tonnes per annum plant for manufacturing a chlor-alkali that can be used as a water treatment chemical for various purposes. The initial investment is going to be around Rs 500 crore. Around five hectares of land has been allotted for the project." He, however, did not want to specify the name of the chemical, but added that this would be the first of its kind plant in the country. The chemical is efficient enough to convert saline water into drinking water can also be used to treat sewage water before it is dumped into the rivers or the seas.

Kurani claimed that while there are 10,000 swimming pools in India, there are more than 1.6 lakh swimming pools in Los Angeles. "We would be exporting our entire production from Dahej SEZ to LA. The current requirement in LA is around 7,000 tpa,” he added. The company's Dahej facility would be operational in a year's time and would be eventually scaled up to 30,000 tpa within four year's time. Additional investment for the project would be to the tune of Rs 1,800-2,000 crore. Crystal Water Products would then supply to urban civic bodies for treatment of sewage. "While most water treatment chemicals available now are used for bacteria removal or filtering effluents, the chemical would be able to convert saline water into potable drinking water besides also treating sewage water before disposal.", Kurani claimed.
