With an aim to attract more tourists from across the country and overseas, the Gujarat government is planning to use the PPP model (Public Private Partnership) to develop infrastructure and other amenities at some tourist places, including 14 beaches in the state of Gujarat.
The state government is also planning to invest Rs 40 crores to develop infrastructure and other amenities at Saputara in the next 10-12 months.
"The footfall of tourists in Gujarat, which was 60 lakh only in FY 2005-06, has increased to 1.70 crores in FY 2010-11 due to Gujarat state government's efforts. With an aim to undertake various tourism development projects to attract more tourists towards Gujarat, the Gujarat government is planning to use PPP model in association with Infrastructure leasing and financial services limited (IL&FS) to undertake various tourism development activities," Kamlesh Patel, Chairman, Gujarat Tourism Corporation Ltd (GTCL), who was recently in Nashik for GTCL's Road Show, told Business Standard.
"We are promoting Saputara- one of our major tourist destinations, in some of the major cities of Maharashtra like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Nagpur. We have organised a month-long Monsoon Festival at Saputara, beginning from July 30, 2011.We have recently spent Rs 20 crores to develop a lake in Saputara. We are planning to invest around Rs 40 crores to carry out development work in Saputara," Patel added.
