Haryana plans to disburse old-age allowance manually

Having faced certain problems in disbursing of old-age allowance through banks, the Haryana government has decided to disburse the Old Age Samman Allowance manually through urban and local bodies in urban areas and through panchayati raj institutions in rural areas till the banks provide adequate infrastructure for the same purpose.

This was stated by social justice and empowerment minister Geeta Bhukal while replying to the Calling Attention Motion of Raj Pal Bhukhri, MLA, during the ongoing budget session on Friday.

Now the remittance through bank accounts in urban areas would recommence after the banks had established adequate infrastructure ward-wise. Total number of beneficiaries has increased from 9,87,634 in 1999-2000 to 13,86,207 in 2010-11. Under the Old Age Samman Allowance Scheme, Rs. 700 were given to all pensioners registered on or before March 1, 1999 and Rs. 550 to all pensioners registered on or before April 1, 2010. An allowance of Rs. 500 had been fixed for all others.
