Wheat this year has been sown over 24.97 lakh hectares as against 25.10 lakh hectares last year, says state agriculture department.
With sowing of Rabi crops nearing its completion, the area under Rabi crops in Haryana has shown encouraging trends similar or more in comparison to the target achieved last year.
According to the state agriculture department, wheat this year has been sown over 24.97 lakh hectares as against 25.10 lakh hectares, covered last year. The officials maintained with late varieties sowing underway the final area under wheat would be similar to that of the previous year area. The trageted area under wheat in Haryana this year is 25 lakh hectares.
Scientists in agriculture university in Haryana maintained till now the weather has turned out to be favourable for the wheat crop and they were anticipating good production, if weather continues to be favourable for the crop.
Area under Rabi oilseeds has also increased this year, in comparison to last year. Around 5.26 lakh hectares has been covered under Rabi oilseeds compared to 5.04 lakh hectares covered last year. The area, however, is less compared to the targeted area of 6 lakh hectares, as the sowing for rabi oilseeds has completed.
The area under gram (chana) so far has been 1.14lakh hectares as against 1.12 lakh hectares covered last year. The projected area for gram this year is 1.30 lakh hectares.
Similarly, the rabi pulses however, has shown encouraging trends .As against targeted area of 0.10 lakh hectares, 0.08 lakh hectares has been covered. The area covered during the corresponding period last year was 5.04 lakh hectares.
