“The government hospitals are understaffed and many places have obsolete infrastructure. The state allocates only two per cent of the total budgetary allocation and 0.7 per cent of the gross domestic product to the health sector. I have already sent a proposal to the chief minister to revise funds earmarked for health, as education and health are the two main edifice of a strong society.” Vij said.
He ruled out public-private partnership model for the expansion of health services. He also said close to 100 doctors, who were working in other states, had been asked to join back in their home state to meet the deficit of staff.
