Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated the Congress and it's president Sonia Gandhi on their thumping victory in the general elections in India and expressed hope that friendly relations between the two countries would gain more strength in the future.
The faith reposed on Congress through this election is a reflection of people's aspiration for democracy, peace and bringing about a change, she said in a statement.
Hasina, who led her party and allies to a landslide victory in the landmark January 29 general elections in Bangladesh, expressed hope that existing friendly relations between the people of the two countries would further deepens in the future.
Government would closely work with the new government in India for consolidating democracy, establishing peace, fighting poverty and ensuring development in the region, she said.
